The Problem

What is Renting in London Really Like?

We listened to countless of London renters.

Their stories aren't just complaints. They are the blueprint for our mission.

  • They definitely don’t tell you before hand

  • We found mice in our flat

  • Plants growing through skylights, no doorknobs, toilets that don’t flush

  • The entire plaster of our living room just came away from the wall and crashed down one night

  • There were rats and there were cockroaches and chicken fumes

  • I had a ceiling fan fall through the roof

  • They’re forcing us to stay even though it’s not a liveable condition

  • It’s really hard to tell what the place is going to be like because there are so many things you can not see through a video

  • It would have been good to know what the potential issues are before I moved in

  • We looked at the house initially but I felt like it was a bit misleading

  • The pictures don’t adjust to the reality of the house

  • They kind of just move the camera quickly whenever they had something they didn’t want to show you

  • A lot of the time we just get houses blindly

  • I was abroad, I was working, it was very difficult to arrange a good time for both the agent and myself

What is Causing this Problem?

There is a multi-million pound industry built on renting properties as quickly as possible. Every wide-angle lens, every "strategic" lighting choice, and every omitted detail is designed to get you to sign a lease before you see the flaws.

Listings are designed to sell the property, not reflect reality. Professional cameras and wide-angle lenses hide hidden damages.

Deceptive Information

Time Zone Trap

The London market moves at extreme speeds, making distance a massive disadvantage for remote searchers.

Conflict of Interest

Estate agents work for the landlord, not the tenant. This creates a fundamental misalignment of incentives.

Why can WE solve this?

Our Purpose

The current system is built for speed and profit, not for people. Between biased photos, selective descriptions, and agents pushing for the fastest signature, the truth about a property often stays hidden until the day you move in.

We set out to create a service that brings the power back to the tenant, with the correct information searchers can make critical decisions and force landlords to appeal to them not only in the listing photos but in reality too.

“We didn't just build an app. We built a standard for what a quality rental should actually look like.” - Rafi, CEO

Our Values

We exist to level the playing field. If a flat is a nightmare, we’ll tell you—even if it means you don't rent it.

Renters over Revenue

See the Invisible

We go into the corners, under the sinks, and behind the furniture. No hidden damp, no surprises.

For Renters, By Renters

House Scout was built out of the frustration of our own "nightmare" move-ins. We build the tool we wish we had.

Listings are designed to sell the property, not reflect reality. Professional cameras and wide-angle lenses hide mould, space constraints or broken facilities.

Time Zone Trap

The London market moves at extreme speeds, making distance a massive disadvantage for international or remote renters.

Conflict of Interest

Why can WE solve this?

We are a team of design engineer students who have collectively moved over 15 times across London. We’ve lived through the mould, the broken boilers, unreliable agencies and the endless viewings. Our expertise spans from product design and UI/UX to human-centred design, but more importantly, we’ve lived this problem firsthand.
